PostFire is a grassroots volunteer organization founded by Eaton Fire survivors who are long-time community organizers. We are not affiliated with any brand, governmental entity, or for-profit endeavor.
Our aim is to support survivors by presenting clear, credible information, and ensuring survivors are connected to each other and are getting the resources they need.
PostFire has a strong focus on keeping Altadena ownership among the historical communities it was built by, and ensuring that this disaster doesn’t cut along race and class lines as so many have before.
PostFire is founded by iO Wright (@iOlovesyou) and Patty Ratermann who lost two properties in the Eaton fire.
Leadership includes but is not limited to Clara Aranovich, Diana Frame, and others.
We work in collaboration with local organizers, especially those with an eye to keeping Altadena in the hands of those who historically owned it.
Each individual should be aware that neither “PostFire” nor any of its representatives guarantee or warrant any specific projected result of involvement with PostFire. Accordingly, survivors should retain and rely upon the advice of their own professional advisors with respect to their specific individual tax, financial, legal, real estate or other matters as PostFire nor any of its representatives is an expert in any financial, legal, accounting, building or real estate matters and are merely volunteering to aid survivors.
Goals include:
No neighbors left behind
Efforts include outreach to elders and non-native speakers via churches, community centers, and local leaders, as well as printed, in-hand info sheets.
Discounted Building Materials access
We are working with a number of organizers to coordinate getting survivors access to building materials that are not price-gouged by a surge in demand.
Giving us agency over our rebuilds
No one likes to feel like a charity case, and getting free or discounted materials doesn’t mean we have to give up our taste or aesthetic. We’re hoping to help organizers open an in-person space in Altadena for survivors to touch and see materials in person before making selections. Including tile, wall materials, roofing, siding, paint colors, window types, etc.
Guidance from experts
Q&As with licensed professionals who are not bidding for any work from us, who can guide survivors through insurance claims, debris removal FEMA, SBA loans, lack of or inadequate insurance, renters issues, and the complex rebuild process.
Lawsuit Guidance
We are working with a network of legal professionals who are providing free support to survivors trying to understand whether to join a Class Action or Mass Tort, so they can make informed decisions.
Ensuring access to donations is unilateral
Many brands are offering furniture and other donations that will need to be warehoused or sourced in the long term. We are working to ensure that people’s generosity isn’t short lived and ALL survivors have access, not just those who are on social media.
Free or Discounted rebuild services
Helping survivors access vetted networks of licensed professionals to help with architecture, design, contracting, material sourcing, permitting, etc.
Governmental Influence
The more survivors we have in-network, the more pressure we can apply to the county of LA to act in our best interests.
