Red Cross Deadline TOMORROW
If you would benefit from $1280 and are affected by any of the LA wildfires, tomorrow is the deadline to apply with the Red Cross. Their application is easy and takes five minutes. You can find it here.
Some things to note:
Grants are one per household so only one person should fill out the application.
It is not a loan, if you are eligible this will not need to be repaid
About the application process:
It requires your name, pre disaster address, current contact information and how many people are in your household
The page can be translated into your native language, you will see the option to choose your language underneath the big application title.
After that someone from the Red Cross will follow up and request a proof of identity. You will need some sort of verification that you lived in your home and a photo ID. Think insurance claim letter, utility bill, driver’s license, passport. If you do not have a photo ID due to the fires, your case manager will help you determine the appropriate identification needed.
Once your identity is confirmed by the Red Cross, they will then ask how you would like to receive assistance, aka what payment method they can use to deposit your funds, you can choose from
Bank transfer via a debit card
Walmart to pick up cash (although we’ve heard this has been buggy)
Paypal
Zelle
The fastest way to receive your money is via a debit card transfer, it will arrive in 30 minutes.
After you have input your payment information, you’ll receive another email that confirms your payment is processing. You will receive $1,280 as a gift that is possible from the donations that the Red Cross receives.
If you have questions, their hotline that can be reached is 1800REDCROSS. 1-800-733-2767
